Whale sharks or gentle giants, as we like to call them😊 are gigantic but harmless sharks that are the largest living fish. They are slow-moving, filter-feeding giants, who live up to 100 years old and older! Whale sharks have very large mouths and are filter feeders, and feed almost exclusively on plankton and small fishes, and pose no threat to humans. They are found in marine environments worldwide but mainly in tropical oceans. They make up the only species of the genus Rhincodon and are classified within the order Orectolobiformes, a group containing the carpet sharks. Did you know that baby sharks are called pups? 🥰
